How Old Are Shark Teeth Fossils?

Fossilised shark teeth are at least 10,000 years old and maybe millions of years old. Most fossilised shark teeth date from the Late Cretaceous (100.5 to 66 million years ago) and Tertiary periods (66 to 2.6 million years ago). C. megalodon teeth date from 28 to 1.5 million years ago.

 

How Many Teeth?

A single shark sheds all it’s teeth every 2-3 weeks and can produce 20,000 teeth in it’s life.

 

Shark Teeth Symbolism Sailors and surfers wear shark teeth for good luck and protection from drowning. In the Middle Ages people donned a shark tooth to protect them from poison in foods and drink.
