TALES OF CORNISH MARINERS AND MERMAIDS

These stories were collected by the scientist, poet and pioneer photographer Robert Hunt (1807-1887) and tell us something of the old superstitions which were apparently still quite common in the early Victorian period.

Sailors and fishermen lived very dangerous lives, and it is unsurprising that the sea had more than its share of ghosts and unearthly creatures, at once tempting and dangerous.
