Hannah Marshall grew up in Cornwall but now lives in Brighton, however she frequents the South West to beach-comb and look for new materials especially sea glass and sea pottery - shards of broken bottles, plates and tiles eroded by the tides against the sand over many years to smooth the edges. It is one of the few examples of nature recycling our rubbish, tumbling forgotten items into beach gems. Hannah uses surgical stainless steel in her metal designs, a hardy durable metal that doesn’t rust or tarnish and is suitable for people with metal allergies. It is used extensively in both the maritime and clinical industries for these reasons. Hannah creates wire bezels to secure the glass using a time-consuming weaving technique that she designed myself, sort of a cross between knitting and basket making. The hemp pieces Hannah designs are made using organic hemp that is soft to wear, and like leather it ages well the more you wear it. The sea glass has been drilled by hand by her.
