Sarah McCormack was born in Harrow in 1966, studied Art at Harrow College of further education and subsequently completed a BA Hon’s at Sunderland College of Art & Design in Glass & Ceramics. Moving to Plymouth in 2006 she began making functional objects such as jugs, bowls and dishes, all hand built from slabs and coils. These time consuming ceramic techniques, combined with a lack of studio time, were the catalyst for the development of her signature series, nicknamed 'Stroppy Clocks'. These eye catching timepieces meld architectural form with human characteristics, the positioning of the ‘arms’ suggesting certain personalities or attitudes of the piece. Each piece is fired three or more times, finishing with a final gold or platinum lustre firing.
