Suzy Sharpe's work seeks to explore ideas beneath our surface perceptions of animals, to encourage us to ask questions about our relationship with them and the roles that animals play in our lives. A relatively unobserved symbiotic coexistence exists between us, where animals are deeply embedded into all areas of our society, vocabulary and lives. Suzy is interested in the questions that arise from painting a portrait of an animal such as a chicken, duck or sheep. She is fascinated by our changing points of view regarding food animals and wildlife, the way we treat them and the importance we place on them. Animals have always been an integral part of Suzy's life, her father was a butcher and she has spent most of her life around animals. Her feelings towards animals are filled with paradox and contradictions, occasionally creating some unusual perspectives.
