Ruaraig Maciver rediscovered his interest in art in his early twenties when he took Higher art at night school, a two-year diploma course at Carlisle and then a Ba(Hons) in Fine Art (Sculpture) at Canterbury. After art school, Ruaraig returned home to the Scottish Borders where he worked for a time in industry making original artwork for commercial casting before he and his brother Iohmar set up Beltane Studios Ltd in Peebles in 1996. Beltane Studios is a fine art bronze foundry and sculpture studio where Ruaraig has been the in-house sculptor for over twenty years. During this time, they have been fortunate to have been entrusted with a large range of commissions both private and public. Ruaraig has always kept his own studio work going alongside the public art. He enjoys the freedom of working without a brief and usually his own work is much more abstract, occasionally becoming quite strongly architectural. In 2015 he was awarded The Paisley Art Institute Diploma of Artist Membership (PAI) a distinction held by only a handful of sculptors in Scotland.
